Privacy Policy
Effective from: 17 October 2026
Tempo is an offline-first sports tracker. It has no user accounts, no servers of its own, no advertising and no analytics. The only service it sends anything to on its own is crash reporting, which you can turn off. Everything you record stays on your device unless you decide to share it.
Who is responsible
Tempo is developed by Miroslav Pavlík, who is the data controller for the purposes of this policy. Contact: tempoapp.support@proton.me.
What the app stores on your device
- Profile: date of birth, sex, weight, height, activity level, and optionally body fat, resting and maximum heart rate. These are used to calculate training metrics such as heart-rate zones, VO₂max, calories and training load.
- Workouts: GPS route and location, time, speed, distance, heart rate from a connected chest strap, data from a connected Concept2 ergometer (power, stroke rate, pace), cadence and step data from the device’s motion sensors, laps, and the analytics calculated from them. Workouts you import from FIT, GPX or TCX files are stored the same way.
- Settings: your preferences and the Bluetooth addresses of the sensors you last used, so they can reconnect.
On Android, the database is encrypted with a key held in the Android Keystore and is excluded from Android backups. On iOS, the database is protected by iOS Data Protection and is included in your device backups (iCloud or computer) if you have them turned on.
Permissions
- Location (including in the background while a workout is being recorded): to record your route, speed and distance.
- Bluetooth: to find and connect heart-rate straps and ergometers.
- Physical activity / motion: to measure steps and cadence.
- Notifications: to show the ongoing workout while the app runs in the background.
- Photos (iOS, add only): to save a workout image when you ask for it.
What leaves your device
Tempo never sends your profile or workouts anywhere on its own. Data leaves your device only in these cases:
- Maps. When you open a workout that has a GPS route while online, the app downloads map images for that area. On Android they come from OpenStreetMap’s tile servers (OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy); on iOS from Apple Maps (Apple privacy policy). These requests reveal your IP address and the map area being displayed, but not your workout data. Downloaded map images are cached on the device.
- Crash reports. If the app crashes, it sends a technical report to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.), which we use to find and fix bugs. The report contains the error and the code where it happened, the app version, the device model, operating system version and language, and a random installation identifier. It never contains your profile, workouts, location, heart rate or other sensor data. Your IP address is not stored. Data is stored in the European Union. Reports are kept for at most 90 days. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working. Sending is on by default and you can turn it off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Send crash reports (Sentry privacy policy).
- Sharing and export. When you export a workout (FIT, GPX, TCX) or share a workout image, the file goes to the app or service you pick in the system share sheet. What happens to it there is governed by that recipient’s own terms.
- Backups. Settings → Backup & transfer saves your profile and all workouts to a file in the location you choose (for example cloud storage or a computer). The file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere safe. Restoring reads such a file back into the app.
We do not sell, rent or otherwise pass your data to anyone.
How long data is kept, and deleting it
Data is kept on your device until you delete it. You can delete a single workout in its detail, or erase everything in Settings → About → Delete all data. This removes the profile, all workouts, personal records, settings and cached files (exports, share images, map images) from the device. Uninstalling the app also removes all of its data. Copies already in your device backups, backup files you have created, and files you have exported or shared are not affected.
Your rights
Because the data is held only on your device, you can view, export, correct and delete it directly in the app. Under the GDPR you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority; in the Czech Republic this is the Office for Personal Data Protection (uoou.gov.cz).
Children
Tempo is not directed at children under 13 (under 15 in the Czech Republic) and does not knowingly process their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
